We may not know how far it is across the Gulf of Mexico but we do have a decent idea in San Antonio just how far it is to Austin.
The site "If it was my home" imposes the current spread of oil from the BP disaster on a Google map. You can move the spill to any area on the map. Since I'm writing from San Antonio, the site configured itself to offer to impose the spill over San Antonio with the push of a button.
